Daniel Pinchbeck on Colbert Report
While my bud Noel Black is probably going to wet himself over Dan Savage's appearance tomorrow night, I'm much more looking forward to seeing Daniel Pinchbeck this Thursday. I wonder how well Pinchbeck will work next to Stephen Colbert? I am trying really hard, and I can't imagine 2012 being received well on a comedy show. Even with the most tender presentation, much of the material in that book is too far-out for most folks. Maybe they can be softened up little by little. ;)
In an odd twist of fate, Pinchbeck has in the past been a guest blogger right here on Non-Prophet while Dan Savage currently writes for Noel's Newspeak paper.
This almost makes me wish I had television service in my home. Viva-la-youtube!
Snagged with a Google Alert:
THE COLBERT REPORT, Comedy Central
Mo 12/11: Dr. Peter Singer
Tu 12/12: Dan Savage
We 12/13: Doris Kearns Goodwin
Th 12/14: Daniel Pinchbeck

You don't have a TV? How do you know what stuff you're supposed to buy to impress your superficial friends?

I use Netflix quite a bit, but I canceled my broadcast service over a year ago. It's nice.

If I can't pick it up with an aerial or rabbit ears, it doesn't get watched. I haven't paid for cable since college. And the dish bolted to the front of my house is a leftover from the previous owner. I just leave it up there so I don't have to deal with the big holes drilled into my house.
I don't think I'm missing a damn thing, though. Every time I go on vacation and get a chance to watch cable or satellite TV, I am blown away by the garbage I see. So much filler, so much wasted time. It's just not worth even the bare minimum $30 to me.
I'm not TV free. But I have no problem being cable free!

Yeah, for material that is so far off of the mainstream I thought it went swimmingly. Daniel managed to say/slip-in a couple of things that I thought were really cool.
It was weird; Colbert is such a parody of society that in some ways his statement has a lot in common with Pinchbeck's.
