Check this out. Here is a blog focused on defending the forests of the front range. It's friggin' awesome. How does he get these pictures? Go check out his site and browse though stories. They're a hilarious chronicle of dumb guys that drive their 4x4's into rivers and mud, plus a bunch of vandalism stories that are very obviously perpetrated by, yet more dumb guys. Great stuff. The site needs a way for guest contributions. It could be a center of attention on this problem. An aggressive clean-up culture might be able to accomplish a lot to undo the damage, and build a social ethic for the forest. Let's be cool andpick up the stuff left behind by others, and point out the trouble spots.
Speaking of the forest vandalism problem, I come from a place that is so much more full of junk that the forests here seem to me to be pristine. I think that focus on the growing problem on the front range is important, but should be approached in a way that doesn't result in strict legislation being inacted due to an alarmist positioin being pushed by the pro-forest folks.
PikeTalk:
PikeTalk is a blog looking at what we see as we hike, bike, four wheel, dirt bike, and ATV through the Pike National Forest on Colorado's front range. This blog is in no way related to or associated with the US Forest Service, US Department of Agriculture, Colorado Bureau of Land Management, Colorado State Parks, Colorado Springs Utilities, or any other state or local authorities. We are simply local folks who think the world needs to see the stupidity that takes place on our public lands.
