History of Video Game Consoles

This is a wonderful site that briefly describes every major video game console that has ever been released. Flipping through the pages felt like traveling in time. I only owned a couple of the machines shown, but I played a whole bunch of them at friends houses. What strikes me when looking at these pages is how obviously people wanted to play video games -- for years and years -- before the technology was really there to make decent ones. It was a long wait for a SNES. Additionally, it is truly amazing how many failed systems came out. It seems like Sega must have shipped a dozen or so systems that flopped so badly that they only managed to drum up a vague recollection. In any case, looking back it was a long hard slog to get to the Wii, and the road sure wasn't a pretty one.
